“We’ll just have to wait and see. He’s got a bit of a groin injury at the moment, a little niggle that if he plays with it he might pull it.

“We’re just treating him cautiously.

“He’s out of contract at the end of the season and is frustrated he’s not playing every week.

“I can’t keep 20 players happy all the time but he thought it was good for his career and it might free up some funds for me to inject something into the squad that can kick us on.

“They’ve had a little look at him and are keen on him but at the moment there’s nothing doing.

“Whether he moves out or stays he’ll be treated with the respect he deserves.

“He’s a great pro and great lad and we’ll see what happens over the coming weeks.”

Bentley needs players to leave the club in order to free up funds to make signings in the January transfer window.

Two players who could go out on loan are youngsters Chris Doyle, who recently had a spell at Confernce North side Chorley, and Aaron McGowan.

The Shrimps boss however believes there is a fine line when sending players elsewhere to get first-team experience.

Bentley said: “We’ve got high hopes for Doyley.

“I personally think he’s ready for a loan move into the Conference.

“There’s been one or two teams who’ve shown a little bit of an interest in him but we’re a little bit thin on the ground with regards to bodies.

“He’s affecting our first team squad and although I think it’ll do him good, similar to Aaron McGowan, you’ve got to get the balance right.

“It’s no good sending lads out on loan to then have just four subs on the bench.

“We’re struggling a bit with regards to bodies at the moment so we’ll see what happens in the coming weeks.”
