The duo hit five goals between them at the weekend as Town progressed in the Lancashire Amateur Shield with an 8-1 thrashing of Lostock St Gerards.

Ashcroft will be hoping he and his strike partner can continue their form in front of goal when they welcome Crooklands Casuals to the Mike Riding Ground on Saturday.

“There’s lots more to come from us both playing together as a strikeforce,” said Ashcroft.

“Our link up play especially in the second half was some of the best we’ve shown in the four or five matches we’ve started together.”

Ashcroft was thrilled to win against Lostock and does not believe progress in the cup will be an hindrance to their West Lancashire League title aspirations.

‘Winning games breeds confidence,” said Ashcroft. “I’d love to win a trophy whether it be the League, the Amateur Shield or the Richardson Cup. Obviously the league is the bread and butter.”

Town currently find themselves in fourth spot in the table having won nine of their 12 league games so far this season.

Their three defeats have all come at home and that is something Ashcroft is looking to improve upon over the coming month – starting this weekend.

“We would, I’m sure, have done better against Charnock and Euxton at home had we not had a player sent off in both games,” Ashcroft said.

“With Charnock dropping points the title race is back in our own hands. Every game is important and we want to make sure stay on the tails of the leading pack.”

Meanwhile, Ashcroft has rejected an approach from Coppull United for Rick Coar.
