Miller and Devitt’s link up is vital

Shaun Miller had one person to thank post-match after making it four goals in four games on Saturday. During our interview the striker was quick to heap praise on Jamie Devitt who has so often been credited with an assist for the former Crewe man’s goals this season. Both striker and midfielder have been in fine form as The Shrimps have embarked on an unbeaten run of four games around the turn of the year. If Morecambe are to have a memorable second half of the season numbers 16 and seven will undoubtedly be key. Whatever the final standing is in May as well as being the perfect complements for one another the duo also have something else in common, they are out of contract in the summer. It will perhaps be alarming to some Shrimps fans that Jim Bentley warned he has fight to hold onto all his prize assets. He is only being honest however. Bentley and all involved at the club will hope his faith in two players who had lost their way before coming under his wing is rewarded with an extended Globe Arena stay but The Shrimps boss knows more than anyone that they can easily ply their trades higher up the Football League pyramid.

Conlan looks like a classic Jim loan

Luke Conlan didn’t get a chance to make his Shrimps bow on Saturday but the Burnley youngster looks like a classic Jim Bentley loan signing. He is a good age, at 21, and has been schooled at a higher level at Turf Moor. The Northern Ireland Under 21 international has been brought in to bolster a depleted squad but it looks more than likely he will be available on a permanent basis in the summer. Having a look at a player on a temporary basis before making a move in the close season is a tried and tested Bentley transfer policy with Shaun Beeley, Ryan Edwards and Jamie Devitt just three of the players who have been recruited in that manner. He may be yet to kick a ball for The Shrimps but Conlan certainly has a chance to make his mark over the next four weeks.

Kev’s reminder he can change games

Kevin Ellison has always had a reputation as a match-winner. His goal may not have been the eventual winner but his fine turn and finish just five minutes after Yeovil went in front was a huge turning point in the Globe Arena snow. Having struggled all too often at home a goal that came out of the blue provided the impetus for Shaun Miller’s late winner. Often criticised by fans, as quickly defended by Jim Bentley, Ellison proved again on Saturday that his days are far from numbered.
