The Tranmere Rovers front man has returned to the Globe Arena on a six-month loan deal after a successful spell at the end of last season.

Stockton, entering the final year of his contract at the National League club, said: “We were pushing for 12 but I’m still made up with the six either way to get a few games.

“I loved it here last season and I’m made up to be back.

“As soon as I walked through the door I knew half the lads here and they just made me feel welcome, so did the gaffer and Kenny Mac (McKenna, assistant manager).”

The 22-year-old scored two goals in seven appearances for The Shrimps last term and is hoping to make even more of a mark this time around.

Speaking to Shrimps Player, Stockton said: “I just like to try and play well and do the things I do and then if I do get the chance try and put it away.

“The goals just come that way.

“I just want to score more goals and make a name for myself and enjoy my football.”

Stockton, who scored two goals against The Shrimps in a 2-1 win for Tranmere at Prenton Park in August 2014, has since fallen out of favour with Rovers.

He said: “It hasn’t been the best (time) for what they are, a big club.

“In my first year as a pro we were top of the league for 20 weeks and then it just slowly deteriorated.

“It’s a big club with good people there but it wasn’t right for me there so I needed to come out and I’m made up to be back here to try and get a few games and goals.”

Now back with The Shrimps, Stockton is hoping to help Jim Bentley’s side make a sustained push at the sharp end of League 2.

He said: “We just want to start well.

Morecambe always start the season flying and they’re always at the top and then just slowly drift.

“It’s just trying to keep that run strong throughout the season.”
