Morecambe ended their pre-season campaign with a confidence boosting 1-0 victory over St Johnstone on Saturday.
A first-half goal from summer signing Marcus Marshall gave the Shrimps the spoils against Tommy Wright’s youngsters.
The former Rotherham man scored his first goal for the club on 33 minutes with what proved to be the telling moment of the game.
Andy Fleming provided the pass with a long ball over the top which the summer signing took down superbly before slotting the ball past Zander Clark.
The game began with the home side on the front foot as Murray Davidson volleyed wide and A Trialist forced an excellent save from Barry Roche after a neat move.
After a slow start the Shrimps then came into the game with Fleming volleying narrowly wide after a slick interchange with Stewart Drummond and Kevin Ellison forcing a neat save from the home keeper from a well-struck free-kick.
The second half began with A Trialist forcing another neat save from Roche and Gwion Edwards drilling a shot side of the left-hand post after an excellent run into the Morecambe box.
The Shrimps then threatened briefly with Ellison testing Clark with a left foot shot after cutting in from the right win. Substitute Jack Sampson then hit a long range effort that forced Clark into a sharp block.
Joe McGee went close with a delightful curler in the 86th minute and Amond went close a minute later with a lob over the on-rushing keeper which sailed just the wrong side of the posts.
Sampson then wasted a great chance to make it 2-0 but blazed over from close range.
