The game was played on an artificial pitch which suited the home side and it took Slyne about 10 minutes to get into the game and find their passing.

With the wind in the first half Slyne pressed the game into the Southport half with captain Scott Greenwood marshalling the defence and pushing the full backs on to try and get the advantage.

On 25 minutes a ball from Tom Entwistle found Josh Buller who lofted the ball over the ‘keeper only to find Jamie Hastings in an offside position.

It only took another five minutes before Buller had the ball in the back of the net however. After good work down the right the cross came in and Buller was there to sweep the ball home from 10 yards.

Entwistle then fired a shot from distance wide as Slyne went into the half-time break a goal to the good.

The hosts pressed for an equaliser early in the second period but were caught on the break, Hastings finishing off a fine passing move with ease.
