In a game played in atrocious conditions the team on the hunt for a seventh West Lancashire Premier Division title went in front after just 60 seconds thanks to Carl Grimshaw’s neat finish.

Ian Roe’s side hit back though with Jamie Hastings equalising straight from a free-kick five minutes later before putting Slyne in front with his second on the quarter hour, this time seeing a corner deflected in.

Charnock levelled things up five minutes before the break with an own goal but there was still time for a fifth goal in the opening half, Slyne heading into the interval 3-2 in front thanks to Jack Preston’s fine finish 60 seconds later. Slyne’s cause was helped when Mark Woods was sent off for the visitors on the hour mark.

Charnock kept coming however as they looked to get back on level terms but found James Brindle in the Slyne goal in good form.

The hosts sealed victory 10 minutes from time with Danny Dixon tapping in a fourth after Jack Preston’s shot had been spilled.

With five games in hand on Tony Hesketh’s league leaders Fulwood Amateurs, Charnock still have their title destiny in their own hands.

Slyne, ninth in the table, saw their game at Hesketh Bank on Monday was postponed.
