The contest could have been settled sooner with the Coar brothers both missing good openings in the first 90 seconds.

Garstang had to wait until the 14th minute for the opener though, Rick Coar firing home from close range as Slyne appealed for offside.

Ben Price then denied Alan Coar before brother Rick went close with another effort.

The hosts improved as the opening half went on with Matty Bell impressing against his former club.

The pacey wide man however found stiff competition in Riversiders left back Dan Birch with Garstang taking a single-goal advantage into the interval.

That lead was doubled on 57 minutes, Alan Coar getting his name on the scoresheet after some good build-up play.

Garstang continued on the front foot with Rick Coar rounding Price only to see his goal-bound shot blocked by a defender on the line.

The game was over as a contest two minutes from time, when after a swift counter attack Rick Coar drew Price from his goal and squared for his brother to score.
