Shaun Miller: Jamie Devitt link-up a striker's dream
Shaun Miller says his partnership with Jamie Devitt has been key to his return to form in front of goal.
The Morecambe striker has four in his last four games, taking his tally to the season to 11, with Devitt laying on the latest that sealed a 2-1 win over Yeovil on Saturday.
Before the hot streak he had not scored since notching seven in October which saw him named League 2’s player of the month.
The in-form front man said: “I think it’s no coincidence that since Devs has been back in the team that I’ve scored goals.
“It’s really good linking up with him and we’ve got a great relationship.
“There’s nothing better for a striker because there’s nothing worse than making a run and the ball doesn’t come.
“But he seems to pick them out, not only for me but for everyone.
“He’s got a great range of passing and that goes to show with how many assists he’s got, a lot of which are for me.
“I’m very grateful.”
Miller’s fine finish in the 80th minute sealed an excellent come-from-behind win for The Shrimps who got the better of a pulsating game punctuated by three goals in 11 second-half minutes.
The 28-year-old said: “It’s a great win.
“We were going into the game on the back of three games unbeaten so it was important we kept that run going.
“Everyone dug in right to the end and there was some great last-gasp defending.
“We’re delighted with the three points.”
The victory means Morecambe sit just four points shy of the play-offs ahead of the trip to high-flying Northampton on Saturday.
Miller said: “They’re flying and we know it will be a tough game but we’re going there on the back of four unbeaten.
“We’ve got no reason to fear them as such and we’ll be going there to get a result.
“On the whole we’ve been decent on the road and hopefully we can produce some of the performances we had earlier in the season.”
Off the field, boss Jim Bentley has admitted he has a tough task keeping hold of Miller and others who are out of contract in the summer.
The striker insists however his focus is on performing on the pitch.
He said: “I’m taking it game-by-game and we’ll see how it goes.
“I leave all that stuff with other people. I’m just taking each game as it comes and concentrating on scoring goals and helping us get some wins.”
