The Shrimps accepted a bid from Peterborough last Wednesday night for the striker who then travelled down to London Road for a medical and talks on Thursday.

But with the 23-year-old’s partner expecting their second child in the coming days he said it simply wasn’t the right time to make the move.

Redshaw said: “Morecambe made it very clear that they didn’t want me to go but at the same time said it was a great chance for me to see what was on offer.

“I passed the medical, had a chat with them, they showed me round the place and then the actually wanted me to sign that day and play at the weekend.

“But I’ve got more important things at the moment, my missus is due a baby and we’ve already got a three-year-old so I said I needed to have a good think about it.

“I couldn’t jump into it. I went home Thursday afternoon and spoke to my family and a few hours later I made the decision.

“I’m not denying it would have been a great move for my footballing career but family is more important to me and there’s no chance I’d be able to leave my missus with a three-year-old and a newborn baby.”

Redshaw admitted it had been a hard few days but said he was now fully focused on helping the Shrimps progress.

The former Manchester City youngster said: “It’s been a tough week.

“Everyone’s been talking about it since Tuesday. Everyone inside the club knew what was happening from Thursday but I’m just happy here and concentrating on playing for Morecambe.

“I think everyone knows I love this club, I love playing here, love being here and I’ve made great friends here.

“I love working under the gaffer (Jim Bentley) and Ken (McKenna, assistant manager).”

And the man who topped the Shrimps’ goalscoring charts in 2012-2013 expects to be at the club for some time to come despite the admiring glances from elsewhere.

He said: “I’m a Morecambe player so unless anything changes and the club accepts another bid I’ll be here for at least the two years left on my contract.

“I’m happy here and that’s the way it is.”
