MORECAMBE boss Jim Bentley said poor defending proved costly as his side recent run of form was ended at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Shrimps found themselves three goals down after 50 minutes to a Burton side who secured their eighth successive home win.
Bentley said: “We have defended well away from home in recent weeks but we failed to reach those standards in this game and were made to pay.
“Burton scored their goals and didn’t have to work hard enough for any of them. If it hadn’t have been for Barry Roche we might have even further behind and we gave ourselves a mountain to climb.
“To be fair to the lads they fought to the end again and got two goals back and I’m pretty sure we would have got another if the game went on for an extra five or 10 minutes.
“The substitutions made a massive difference and once we got at them we looked dangerous and I thought we were terrific in the final half an hour or so.”
