Lancaster City have made two familiar names their first signings of the summer.
Former Morecambe midfielder Garry Hunter is the big name to arrive at Giant Axe with the well-travelled Danny Mahoney returning to the club for a second spell.
Head coach Darren Peacock says the arrivals of two experienced players will make a big difference on and off the field.
He said: “It’s given everybody a lift.
“They’ve got a good pedigree and we’re hoping they can do a job for us on the pitch and also help some of the younger players we want to bring through.
“We need that bit of experience.”
City returned to pre-season training last Thursday, June 20, and Peacock is pleased with what he has seen in the first three sessions of the build up to the new campaign.
He said: “The lads are already getting fitter and the understanding is improving.
“I’m really pleased with the lads’ attitudes and how fit they’ve all come back.
“I hope they are enjoying it because we’re trying to vary it.
“We don’t want to push them too hard because we’re going to have a small squad and we don’t want to go into the season with injuries.”
The Dolly Blues kick-off their pre-season campaign with a game against Garstang at Lancaster and Morecambe College on Tuesday, July 9.
Everyone is welcome for the 7.30pm kick-off.
Peacock then takes to the Giant Axe dugout for the first time on Saturday, July 13, when City host North West Counties outfit Chadderton FC in a 3pm kick-off.
