Freehold have wrapped up the Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire League Division Two title with a game to spare.
The Lancaster side made sure of the championship with a 4-2 win at Burton Thistle on Saturday.
Goals from Kieron Pedder and the evergreen Paul Campbell gave them a two-goal lead before Burton fought back and equalised with two very good goals scored by Ben Lardna and the long-serving Martin Looker.
With 20 minutes remaining in the game Freehold sprung to life again and man of the match Liam Morgan made sure of the title with two fine strikes, the first a far-post header and the second from 12 yards out.
There were scenes of jubilation when the referee blew the whistle for the final time to confirm the club’s first title since 1996 with stand-in skipper Justin Woodhouse leading the celebrations.
