North Lancashire League: Caton make perfect start to league title defence

Reigning champions Caton United have made a perfect start to the new Baines Bagguley Penhale North Lancashire & District Football League Premier Division season.

A 1-0 win at home to Mayfield United, with Thomas Lund on target, means Caton have five wins from their opening five games.

Cartmel and District sit in second with four wins from five after a 6-1 thrashing of Arnside on Monday night and a 2-1 win over Marsh United on Saturday.

Perennial challengers Galgate and Carnforth Rangers sit in third and fourth respectively on 10 points.

Galgate were 1-0 winners over Mayfield United on Monday night with Mark Shorthouse on target.

Rangers lost 3-1 at home to Trimpell and Bare Rangers on Saturday as they tasted defeat for the first time this season.

Both Storeys and Mayfield are yet to pick up a point at the bottom of the table.

Five teams have 12 points at the top of division one with Westgate Wanderers, AFC Moorlands, Boys Club, Freehold and Cartmel and District Reserves all making strong starts.
