After a good opening half hour it was 0-0 but Carl Airey, who won Cartmel’s player of the year award, turned on the style with his pace and trickery leading to two great goals before half-time to put the skids under Trimpell.

The second half again saw Airey on top form as he added two more to his total to win the game for his side.

Trimpell did manage one goal back, scored by Tony Turner, but at the end they were a well beaten side meaning that after a topsy-turvy final two weeks it is Cartmel and District who ended the season as runners-up to Carnforth Rangers .

With just one game remaining Bowerham must avoid losing by more than seven goals to Arnside to send Storeys down into Division One with Bentham after their feeble performance in an 8-0 loss to Cartmel.

In Division One Cartmel and District Reserves came within two minutes of ending the season as champions.

Despite a shock defeat at the hands of Morecambe Royals they knew they had to beat third placed College AFC to end the season on top and with 20 minutes remaining they took the lead when Nathan Bushell scored much to the delight of a large home crowd.

College, who had hardly been into the Cartmel half, then threw everything at Cartmel hoping for at least an equaliser.

With two minutes remaining they were awarded a throw in level with the edge of the penalty area, the huge throw in went to the far post where the ball was misjudged by the keeper and as it bounced over him – Carl Manning was on hand to head into the net.

The two dropped points allowed Westgate Wanderers to top the division as champions with Cartmel Reserves ending the season as runners-up.

One positive for them was their success in the Fisher/Howson Cup, beating Lancaster Rovers Reserves 4-0 in the final.
