Neil Marshall column: Now we focus on the league

It’s obviously disappointing to be out of the cup but we always saw it as a bonus.

The league is our main focus and we’ll be looking to get back on the winning trail against Northwich Victoria on Saturday.

We can’t have any excuses about Tuesday night’s defeat to Farsley but we arrived late and only had about 20 minutes before kick-off.

We did alright in the first half and probably had the better chances but we started slowly after the break and never recovered.

We’ve done a lot of good work over the last couple of months and there looked to be a few tired bodies amongst us.

The result takes nothing away from our good run in the league which continued against Prescot Cables on Saturday.

The game showed a lot of what we’ve been about lately. We won 3-0 and I think we restricted them to about one chance in the whole game.

The result was never in doubt.

Northwich visit Giant Axe this Saturday as one of the top sides in the division but we go into the game knowing we got the better of them (1-0 ) at their place a couple of weeks ago.

We should have made the result even more comfortable on the day so we know we’ve got enough to get back to winning ways.

We’ll go in to the game with the upper hand on them but they’re a good side who will looking for a measure of revenge.

It starts a run where we play all of the top four with Scarborough, Salford and Darlington to follow.

It’ll be a real test of our credentials but in the past we’ve proved just how good we can be against the top sides in the division.

We’ve certainly got nothing to fear.
