Lancaster City Ladies continued their pre-season with a 2-2 draw against a strong Southport Shoreline.
Vanessa Watson and Miya Jackson were on target as the Dolly Blues battled hard against a side who ply their trade a level above Lancaster in Division One of the Lancashire FA Women’s County League.
The visitors started the stronger and despite the best efforts of Rebecca Mellor in the City goal Southport went in front on 21 minutes.
The goal shocked Lancaster back to life and on 39 minutes Watson latched onto a poor kick out from the ‘keeper and took one touch to beat the defence before firing home.
Two minutes later the game had been completely turned on its head with captain Kayleigh Young cutting in front the right and firing in a shot that the ‘keeper couldn’t hold, the ball reaching Jackson 18 yards out who powered a left-footed shot into the top corner.
The goals kept coming however and Southport were soon back level before the break.
Southport fielded a different side in the second half and it turned out to be an entirely different second 45 with chances few and far between.
The best opportunity came five minutes from time with Young shooting narrowly wide after being played through by Jackson as the game ended honours even.
