Darren Peacock is hoping to add more new faces to his Lancaster City squad ahead of the season opener at Burscough on Saturday.

AFC Fylde loanee Joe Whittington and former Workington defender Jamie Street have arrived over the last week with more likely to follow in the next couple of days.

After Thursday night’s final training session ahead of the new Evo-Stik First Division North season Peacock hopes to have his squad finalised.

He has seen Tom Kilifin and Sam Bailey move to Kendal but new additions such as Antonio LaFuente and Hannu Tam have excited City fans in their fleeting appearances with Morecambe legend Danny Carlton also coming out of retirement to play for the club.

Peacock said: “We’ve got a couple of attack-minded players coming down to training on Thursday night and we’ll be having a look at them.

“After Thursday we’ll know the make-up of the squad we’ve got going forward.

“They’ve worked really hard with the majority attending every single training session.”

Whittington, a former Preston North End and Wrexham youngster, caught the eye in the 1-0 win over Workington at Giant Axe on Saturday in City’s final friendly.

Peacock said: “He did really well and gives us something different to what we’ve got.

“He’s close to the AFC Fylde first team and just wants to play.

“In the training game against Fylde a few weeks ago he played against us and stood out.

“He’s going to be a good addition to the squad.”
