Lancaster City returned to winning ways in style with a comprehensive thrashing of rivals Clitheroe in the Doodson Cup on Tuesday night.

fter a bright start it took just 16 minutes to break the deadlock.

Following a half cleared corner Aaron Taylor collected the ball on the edge of the box and fired a low hard shot that was parried by ‘keeper Andrew Dawber to the feet of Neil Marshall.

The City skipper showed great composure to take a touch before side-footing the ball into the right corner of the net to open the scoring.

On the half hour mark forward Reece Pearce capped his impressive start to his Lancaster City campaign with his first senior goal for the club.

Pearce, who rose through the Dolly Blues’ reserves’ ranks, beat the offside trap after a great through ball from Garry Hunter to coolly slot the ball past Dawber to make it 2-0.

The pressure from the hosts was endless and the goal of the game was scored on 38 minutes.

Following some great footwork from Lee Dodgson, and a clever one-two with Hunter, the winger raced in on goal and hit a sweet strike into the bottom left corner.

The second half continued in a similar vein as City looked ever more dangerous on the attack and created chances at will, with Ryan Winder in particular impressing in a number 10 role.

It was the former City U18s forward who scored the fourth with a huge assist to unfortunate keeper Dawber.

Winder’s shot from the right side of the box was straight at the Clitheroe stopper but somehow rolled off the keeper’s glove and into the net.

Aaron Taylor scored a deserved goal to wrap up the scoring with 25 minutes to play.

More great link-up between Dodgson and Hunter saw the former Morecambe midfielder in on goal but the following shot was well saved by Dawber.

The rebound fell kindly to Taylor to tap into an empty net to complete the scoring at 5-0.

There were further chances for Darren Peacock’s side to increase their scoring but he will be happy to keep a clean sheet and seal progression to the next round in style, where they will face Tony Sullivan’s Witton Albion at
