Galgate Ladies got the better of Lancaster City in their Lancashire FA Women’s County League Division Two opener on Sunday.
Two goals from Laura Hunt and a winner from Joanne Proctor helped Galgate take derby bragging rights with Kayleigh Young twice on target for the Dollies.
Young had already seen a shot saved before she opened the scoring for hosts Lancaster on 22 minutes completing a good team move involving Emma Gardner, Alison Capstick and Lydia Gorst by turning and firing home.
Galgate were level on the half hour with Tina Osman feeding Hunt to get her first of the day.
City should have gone in front from the penalty spot but after Young was bundled over in the area Gardner saw her effort saved.
With the scores level at the break it was all to play for and it was Galgate who went in front with Osman again laying on a goal for Hunt.
Lancaster equalised with 20 minutes to play as Young got her second, the striker not needing a second invitation to convert Jess Hogg’s cross.
A draw looked the most likely result but with two minutes to play Galgate snatched all three points with Abby Harrison setting up Proctor for the winner.
This Sunday, September 20, Lancaster City travel to Cherry Tree Ladies and Galgate host Great Harwood Rovers Ladies.
