City boss aiming to bring in new striker

LANCASTER City boss Tony Hesketh is hopeful of adding a striker to his squad before the weekend.

Hesketh is looking to strengthen in that area after seeing top scorer Danny Hattersley join Stockport last week, the 23-goal striker making his debut in the Hatters’ 5-0 drubbing at Southport on Saturday.

He said: “We are in negotiations to bring in a local lad who fits our profile. He’s young and keen to do well.

“It wasn’t the best debut for Danny on Saturday, I think he was replaced when their ’keeper got sent off, but that deal is what we’re about.

“We want to win things at Lancaster City but if we can put boys on their way to a glittering career then all the better.”

Without Hattersley, City picked up an impressive four-point haul this week, a 1-1 draw at fellow promotion-chasers Skelmersdale on Saturday being backed up with a 1-0 win at Radcliffe on Tuesday night.

Hesketh said: “We’re delighted with the four points but it could have been a lot better at Skelmersdale.

“The first half was fairly even stevens but in the second half, and certainly when they went down to ten men, we had enough chances to win a couple of games.

“I was disappointed with the point but it turned out to be a good one after the win at Radcliffe.”
