City assistant gutted by defeat

LANCASTER City assistant manager Phil Brown says his team are “gutted” after a late goal denied them a point at local rivals Chorley on Tuesday evening.

A Jamie Vermiglio goal five minutes from time gave Garry Flitcroft’s promotion-chasers a 2-1 victory after City’s Alex Meaney had equalised an earlier John Cunliffe strike.

Brown said: “I’m mega disappointed. It took us 15 or 20 minutes to get into the game but after that for me we played really well. Our work rate and commitment were immense.

“We were gutted not to get the three points.”
