New Morecambe pro Bailey ready to watch and learn

The 17-year-old midfielder put pen to paper on a one-year deal last Friday having impressed in the club’s academy.

The former Central Lancaster High School pupil has been with the club since he was 13 and is now ready to make the step up to senior football.

He said: “Due to the fact I’m a first year I’m just looking for more experience.

“Hopefully there might be a few times where I can play with the first team.

“But if it’s not my time just yet I hope to gain experience playing wit the older men and experiencing what football at this level is all about.”

Bailey will be looking to learn from the likes of Andy Fleming as he has been doing whenever he’s trained with the first team up until now.

He said: “That’s what I’ve been doing when I’ve been training with them.

“I’m just looking, seeing what they do, what they do in games.

“I’ll just watch and learn and pick up as many things as I can.”

So far Bailey has been involved in academy and reserve team football, captaining the Shrimps’ second string at times.

He said: “I trained with the first team a few times and was hoping to maybe travel but unfortunately that wasn’t the case.

“I’ve played a few reserve games and been captain a few times which has benefited me a fair bit.

“I’ve just enjoyed it up to now.”
