Neil Marshall column: Now's time to put an even better run together

Tom Kilifin has played for both Lancaster City and Kendal this season.

When you’ve played at the amount of non-league grounds I have, that’s saying something.

It was my first visit to Glossop and I don’t like to complain about conditions but I couldn’t feel my arms and hands because it was ice cold and there was sleet sweeping across the ground.

It wasn’t enjoyable.

In the first half we played with the wind and had some chances including a couple of good ones.

Going in at 0-0 at half-time we knew it was going to be hard work though as things switched around after the break.

The reality is once they got the goal we didn’t really pick ourselves up which was really disappointing because if we’d play to our full potential and been a bit sharper in front of goal we’d have taken something from a game against one of the to sides in the division.

They just played the conditions better than we did.

It was a result which saw our seven-game unbeaten run end and if we want to get back in amongst those play-off places the reality is we’ve got to go on an even better one now.

That will be no easy task though because we start with two big games at Giant Axe against Northwich and Kendal.

Northwich are flying high towards the top of the table but there’s been a change of manager and they got battered (5-0 at home to Farsley) on Saturday.

We’ve got to hope that their confidence has taken a bit of a knock and we’ll go into the game looking for an early goal to put them under the cosh.

The gaffer said to us in training the other day that the Kendal game doesn’t need a team talk.

You usually get a player every so often moving between the clubs but this season there’s been three of four moving backwards and forwards.

They’ve had plenty of problems off the field and have seen the first-team squad ripped up.

But they’re not doing too badly at the moment, a lot better than people would think given the issues they’ve had, and we can’t let it distract us from the task in hand on Tuesday night.

It’s not a difficult game to get up for though and one we always look forward to.
