Neil Marshall column: Fantastic support can help push us up the table

Derbies are always big games but it was good to see such a bumper crowd against Kendal.

Fair play to people for coming out on a Tuesday night like they did and it looks like the supporters are really getting behind us now.

Hopefully we can keep this support up because it can really help push us up the league.

On the field I thought we made hard work of the victory.

We went 1-0 up early doors and probably should have got a couple more to settle the nerves.

But we didn’t hammer home our advantage and the longer the game went in the first half the more they came into it.

At half-time we had a few words because we needed to be better all round really but the sucker punch came at one apiece with the penalty.

Then we got back in front quite quickly thankfully but still again at 2-1 we didn’t kill the game off.

There was always the chance they could nick one and it was getting a bit nervy but we finished it off at 3-1.

We said before the game that if we won it was probably a good point against Northwich on Saturday after coming back to draw 2-2.

If we’d have lost or just got the point it wouldn’t have been. But four points from the last two games, I think we would have settled for that at the start of the week.

And when you look back it’s a derby, anything can happen, but we’ve got the three points so it’s on to Farsley next.

They started the season poorly but have gone on a really good run.

There’s no reason why we can’t be the ones to halt it though and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.
