The 28-year-old kickstarted his Shrimps career in stunning fashion with seven goals in all competitions in the month, six of them coming in the league.

The former Coventry and Sheffield United man saw off competition from Nicky Adams of Northampton Town, Curtis Nelson from Plymouth Argyle and Bristol Rovers striker Matty Taylor.

Intent on making up for time lost to injury, the former Crewe trainee’s lob against Bristol Rovers was his first goal in nearly a year.

The highlight was then a 30-yard dipping volley in the 5-2 win at AFC Wimbledon.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley said: “Shaun has been in great form throughout the month of October.

“His professionalism and attitude towards his job have been first class since he arrived at the club and his performances have been excellent.

“We felt once he got a goal to match these performances that he would go on and do what he does best, score goals.

“He got his first goal for the club at the start of October and continued to score another five league goals during the month which is a fantastic achievement and I’m sure there will be more to follow.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Six goals in five October games speak for themselves, and Miller is the clear front-runner for this award in League 2 this month.

“He has had a difficult few years, and the praise that he is getting now is a just reward for the hard work he has undoubtedly put in.”

The managerial award went to Argyle’s table-topping boss Derek Adams.
