Morecambe’s Redshaw turns down move to Peterborough

The Shrimps agreed a fee with the League 1 side and the 23-year-old travelled to London Road to discuss personal terms and have a medical last Thursday before making his decision over the weekend.

It is believed the fee would have been a club-record for Morecambe, eclipsing the £175,000 plus add-ons received for Carl Baker’s move to Stockport County in the summer of 2008.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley said: “We accepted it and it was a decent offer but he went and looked at it and decided at this stage in his life and his career it wasn’t the right move for him.

“We’re only pleased to have him back.

“He wanted to stay but I do think if he can keep turning in decent performances and getting on the scoresheet then there’ll be one or two more who come after him in the future.

“But I’m thankful to still have him.”

In a club statement, chairman Peter McGuigan said: “I am personally delighted that Jack has decided to stay at the club and that he will continue with the impressive form he has shown to date.”

Redshaw was the club’s top goal scorer in 2012-2013 having arrived at the Globe Arena from Altrincham in January 2012.

Topping the Shrimps’ goalscoring charts in his first full season at the club made Redshaw the subject of a rejected six-figure bid from Rotherham.

Having regained form and fitness after hip surgery the former Manchester City youngster is now the subject of concrete interest again.

And Bentley conceded he may not be the only one of the Shrimps’ promising young players to attract admiring glances from elsewhere.

He said: “I think we’ve got one or two in the squad at the moment, young lads with potential.

“And I think if one or two of them catch fire then they might be moving on.”
