Morecambe's players still eye a top-three finish this season

John O’Sullivan says Morecambe will continue to push for automatic promotion as they head into the final stretch of the season.

The Shrimps sit fourth in League Two with five games remaining, starting this afternoon against Oldham Athletic.

Derek Adams’ players are four points adrift of Bolton Wanderers, who are third in the table and visit the Mazuma Stadium this time next week.

Automatic promotion might be out of Morecambe’s hands at present but the unpredictable nature of the League Two season means nothing can be taken for granted.

“We still want to push for the top three and show what a good side we are,” O’Sullivan said.

“If we keep working hard, we will see what happens at the end of the season.

“I don’t want it to end, I always give everything and I’ll keep doing that until the end of the season.”

Morecambe go into today’s game on the back of their 4-1 midweek win against Scunthorpe United.

Though he didn’t find the scoresheet, the 27-year-old was Morecambe’s standout performer on the night with three assists.

O’Sullivan said: “I think, sometimes, you need a few players to step up and give that bit of spark.

“I had one of those games where I wanted to win and work hard, and if you have a couple of players who set the tone, everyone feeds off it.”
