JIM Bentley now knows his first competitive game in charge of Morecambe will be at home to Barnet on August 6.
Next season’s fixtures were released today, and other notable dates for the Shrimps include Bradford at home on September 3 and the return of Craig Stanley to the Globe Arena with Bristol Rovers on September 24.
The Shrimps finish the season away to Gillingham on May 5.
Bentley said: “I am delighted that we are at home on the opening day because it is a Saturday that all fans really look forward to.
“Overall I am never too worried about the fixtures because you have to play everbody twice at some stage of the season but I think it is always a bit of a boost if the first game is at home.
“The first three games are important because a good start can breed confidence and to be up against three sides who finished in a similar position to us last season in the first three games is interesting.
“The news of the fixtures means the season is not long away now and I can’t wait to get the lads in and get cracking.”
Bentley’s side yesterday found out they would travel to Barnsley in the first round of the Carling Cup, the game to be played the week commencing August 8.
