He made 24 appearances for Rovers in League One last season, netting four times, before being loaned to Colchester United in January.

“He’s scored goals at the level and technically he’s a very good player,” Bentley told the Morecambe website..

“We’ve always been impressed with him when we’ve seen him play and we tried to get him in the January transfer window but unfortunately it didn’t develop.

“He can play in numerous positions in the forward areas and he’ll add something different to what we already have.”

The forward’s arrival solves one headache for Bentley, who remains on the lookout for another central defender to complement Sam Lavelle and Steve Old.

Mandeville, who is out of contract with Doncaster next summer, had been made available for transfer by then Rovers boss Darren Ferguson along with former Shrimps loanee Mitchell Lund.

However, Lund has since impressed Ferguson’s successor, Grant McCann, and is back in from the cold.
