Morecambe have moved to strengthen their injury-hit squad with the signing of Wigan youngster Jordan Mustoe on a month’s loan.

The 21-year-old left back, who played 18 games in a spell at League 2 rivals Barnet last season, has been brought in as cover for Robbie Threlfall, who is set to miss around four weeks of action.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley confirmed the signing after Saturday’s goalless draw with Burton Albion in which he was only able to name six substitutes due to injuries and suspensions.

One of those on the bench was youth team defender Will Bell, who has signed non-contract terms with the Shrimps after impressing in Stewart Drummond’s reserve team.

Goalkeeping coach Lee Jones is another to have penned a deal. He is needed to act as cover after Barry Roche picked up an abductor muscle injury in training last week.

Andreas Arestidou made his league debut for the Shrimps against Albion in Roche’s place and is set to continue in goal against his former club Preston North End in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night.

Arestidou starred for North End in the same game last year, with his penalty saves eliminating the Shrimps in a raucous local derby at the Globe Arena.

The game will be the final match of Kevin Ellison’s suspension following his red card against Cheltenham and Andy Wright will also be banned after picking up his fifth booking against Burton.
