JIM Bentley has made former Bradford left back Robbie Threlfall his first summer signing.

The former Liverpool youngster, 23, who was at Bradford City last year before ending the season at Dundee, has signed a two-year deal at the Globe Arena.

He is a player Bentley has admired for some time and almost joined the Shrimps on loan at the start of the year as cover for Laurence Wilson after he picked up the injury that saw him miss the end of the campaign and has now been signed to replace Wilson who has left Morecambe in search of football at a higher level.

Bentley said: “Robbie is a great lad with a good attitude and I am delighted to have him here,

“We wanted a left back who is a good defender but can also get forward and I think he will fit that bit really well and fit into the side well.”

Threlfall, a former England Under 19 international, said he chose the Shrimps ahead of other clubs and was looking forward to the season ahead.

He said: “I know a couple of Morecambe players and as soon as they started talking about the place I knew it would be a great place to come to.

“It looks a great set up and I wish the season was starting tomorrow.”

As well as playing for Bradford, Threlfall has had loan spells at Hereford, Stockport and Northampton.
