Morecambe move excited the Shrimps’ new management team
Adam Lakeland insists he and assistant boss Sam Walker had no qualms about dropping a division when taking over at Morecambe.
Lakeland and Walker have exchanged the National League top flight with FC Halifax Town for life in National League North with a Shrimps team having experienced three relegations in four seasons.

However, the new management duo are confident they can move Morecambe back up the pyramid.
Appearing at a fans’ forum last Thursday, Lakeland said: “We’re ambitious, so we felt that we did a very good job at Halifax and we felt we built a very good team.
“You could say we narrowly missed out on the play-offs by finishing eighth, but we were 11 points behind Forest Green.
“When the opportunity came up to speak to Morecambe, it pricks your ears because you think it’s a massive football club that’s fallen on difficult times and at some point, I genuinely believe somebody will get you going in an upward trajectory.
“The question we had to ask ourselves was do we back ourselves to temporarily step down and try and get them immediately back up? We feel we’re capable of doing that.
“If we’re supported the way we’ve been told that we’ll be supported, then that’s got to be the aim.
“I know that comes with pressure and if we don’t achieve that, then we’ll have egg on our face and we’ll have a lot of people saying what a stupid decision you’ve made.
“I think you’ve got to take opportunities when you think they’re right and we felt this was right. Hopefully, longer term, it’ll be one step backwards to go several forwards.”
