Morecambe meet Oldham Athletic in round two of the Carabao Cup
Morecambe could potentially host Newcastle United or Blackburn Rovers in the third round of the Carabao Cup following the draw for the competition's next two stages.
That is the incentive for defeating Oldham Athletic when the two sides meet at the Mazuma Stadium in the second round of the competition next week.
The draw was carried out on Sunday, 24 hours after the Shrimps defeated Grimsby Town on penalties in their first round tie.
For their part, Oldham progressed thanks to a 3-0 win against Carlisle United.
Round two’s matches are due to be played on September 15-16 with the third round taking place the following week.
