“In the first half we had five or six opportunities before Adam Phillips scored from the penalty spot.

“We played some good stuff and the move leading up to the penalty was fantastic.

Aaron Wildig played a great reversedpass in behind the Maldon centre backs for Carlos Mendes-Gomes to run onto, but as he was going round the Maldon keeper, he was brought down.

“In the second half we continued to dominate the game and created many more openings. Carlos had a goal adjudged offside but it can be seen on the video footage he was onside.

“You have seen a number of upsets this weekend and we had to make sure we were not another of those upsets.

“The aim for us was to get through what was always going to be a tough tie against a side who are bang in form and we did that, and we are in the second round for the first time in a number of years which is great.”
