Morecambe Ladies moved up to fourth in the Northern Division One league table after a 3-1 win over Mossley Hill LFC, taking their unbeaten run to five games.
Playing more assured football these days, the Ladies put their passes together and almost had Emma Kay through on goal but a Mossley clearance gave Morecambe a corner.
Whittingham’s flighted cross was met by the unmarked Beth Fisher, heading past Farrell in the Mossley goal to give the Ladies a 1-0 lead.
When a Mossley shot flashed across the goal, keeper Jodie Woodburn was the only one who realised that it wasn’t going out and chased the ball to the corner flag.
Being pressed, her clearance went directly to Sophie Perry, who taking the opportunity of an empty goal had a punt but Fisher was there, coolly taking the ball down and then calmly clearing it to safety.
Just after the mid-point of the half, Mossley’s Kayleigh MacDonald’s cross had Amy Fisher sliding in at the back post but the ball went beyond her.
Soon after Hannah Paling’s clearance had Emma Kay skating away, her shot was parried by keeper Farrell, the ball fell to Becky Whittingham who played a one-two with Kay and then slipped in the second goal to make it 2-0.
Four minutes before the interval Sophie Fish played the ball up to Whittingham and on to Kay who raced towards goal and lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net.
Mossley pulled a goal back early in the second half when Morecambe were caught in possession – Carla Lee struck a fantastic shot from distance which flew into the top corner to make it 3-1.Kay was unlucky not to add to her goal tally with two good chances before the final whistle but the score remained 3-1.
