First Emma Kay raced past her marker and shot narrowly wide, before Nik Emery brought the best out of Cath Clough, the Chester keeper pushing her shot past the other post. On the half hour mark, Morecambe took the lead when Sophie Fish cut inside from the touchline and pushed the ball up to Emily Hutton, who, despite being surrounded by blue and white hoops, made space for herself, and her looping shot sailed over the reach of the Chester-le-Street keeper.

Three minutes later the scores were level. The Morecambe defence switched off as the impressive Havery took the ball along the byeline and crossed for the unmarked Laura Hockaday to tap in.

The game then opened up as Josie Woodburn in the Morecambe goal kept out a cracking effort from Harvey, while Vikki Ryder hit the bar and Hutton also cleared Ryder’s header off the line from a corner.

Morecambe went back in front in the second half when Woodburn cleared upfield and Hannah Paling got the ball to Emery on the left. She fired a ball inside to Mel Marti,n who threaded the ball through the defenceto Emma Kay, who took the ball on to slip it past the advancing Clough.

With time running out, Emery pressed high up the field and clipped the ball into the path of Kay, who calmly rounded the Street keeper and put the ball into the net.
