Morecambe FC owner: Cashflow problems will be sorted sooner rather than later

Players and staff have not been paid for the month of October with wages due eight days ago.

Mr Lemos, who only took over the club in September from long-serving chairman Peter McGuigan, insists that the problem will be resolved in the coming days when some short-term issues are overcome.

In a statement the Brazilian said: "I would like to apologise to all the players and staff who have not been paid on time.

"I deeply regret the problems this has caused but want to reassure everyone that the issues will be resolved soon and I want to thank the players and the staff for their understanding so far.

"We have faced a number of unexpected cash flow problems but have put plans in place to make sure we get some funds in place next week and make sure everyone receives the money they are owed.

"I want to stress that this is is a short-term problem and assure fans that we have robust plans in place for the future of our great club.

"We totally understand the concerns of everyone involved but want to stress that we are totally committed to taking this club forward and see it continue to grow."

Gordon Taylor, chief executive of the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA), had told BBC Radio Lancashire that they were working with the club and the Football League to remedy the problem.
