The 27-year-old departed the Shrimps after two seasons with the club, yielding more than 60 appearances in all competitions and four goals.

He joined Morecambe in the summer of 2018 after being released by Cheltenham Town, initially signing a one-year contract before penning a two-year deal the following year.

Cranston told the club website: “I want to thank the fans, all the staff and players for putting trust in me and giving me another chance in the Football League.

“I've enjoyed my time but it’s time for me to move on.

“I can't thank everyone enough and I wish the club well.”

Cranston is the 11th player to have left the club over the summer as Derek Adams moulds a squad to try and escape the lower reaches of League Two next season.

His departure means Adams has the choice of either Stephen Hendrie or Luke Conlan on the left-hand side of defence.
