The 28-year-old central defender has agreed a one-year deal with the Shrimps and would seem the obvious replacement for Steven Old following his departure.

Having come through the ranks at Crewe, Davis made his debut in May 2010 before becoming a regular at Gresty Road.

He made more than 200 appearances before joining St Mirren in 2017, initially on loan before a permanent move later that year.

Twelve months later, Davis made the move to Grimsby and played more than 60 times for the Mariners.

Davis said: “I spoke to the manager (Derek Adams) and he really made me feel wanted and in football that is a big thing. I’m delighted to be here and looking forward to getting going.

“I know a few of the lads such as A-Jay Leitch-Smith from my time at Crewe and I’m looking forward to meeting the rest of the lads and getting out there and playing games and hopefully having an enjoyable and successful season.”

Davis joins fellow new arrival Stephen Hendrie in bolstering the Shrimps’ defensive options with manager Derek Adams pleased to have got his man.

He said: “Harry comes in from Grimsby and is another with good experience at this level.

“He can play right or left centre-half and is a player who has a physical presence who uses the ball well and gives us more strength at the back.”
