Morecambe boss Jim Bentley and chairman Peter McGuigan will sit down on Wednesday as the club’s hunt for a new front man intensifies.

The Shrimps need to replace last year’s top goalscorer Jack Redshaw who has made the move to League 1 Blackpool.

Forward players Lee Molyneux and Tom Barkhuizen have been brought to the club but Kevin Ellison, Paul Mullin and first year professional Jack Kelleher are the only out and out front men on the books.

Bentley is keeping his options open and is expected to learn exactly what room for manoeuvre he has on Wednesday as he also looks to tie down a back-up goalkeeper.

The Shrimps boss said: “We do need a little bit more firepower.

“The problem is that it comes at the time when some of your targets have moved onto other clubs and the other thing is a lot of clubs are still after centre forwards.

“We’re not top of the food chain with regards to going out and getting people in.

“Everyone wants a 15 or 20 goal a season striker. We’ve explored all avenues.

“We’ve got targets within the non-league, one or two we’ve missed out and one or two who might be still available, and one or two within the league as well.

“I’ve got a meeting with the chairman and the back-up goalkeeper situation also needs to be resolved.

“I’ll have a chat with him and see where we go.”
