The Shrimps, who are back in action at Salford City tonight, face National League frontrunners Solihull Moors at the Mazuma Stadium on Saturday (12.30pm) with a potential money-spinning third-round tie the prize for both clubs.

Morecambe have not reached the third round since the 2002-03 season when they lost 4-0 to Ipswich Town at Portman Road and Adams – who led Ross County to the Scottish Cup final in 2010 – says Saturday’s game could be a massive springboard.

“When I was managing Plymouth, we got to the third round in 2017 and drew 0-0 with Liverpool at Anfield and only lost 1-0 in a replay – and it was a huge event for the club in terms of reputation and finance.

“Saturday’s game is once again being shown on TV which brings in some much-needed finance but a third-round tie, with the prize money gained and the possibility of facing a big club, can help lead to major improvements for a club.

“With all that in mind there is a lot at stake on Saturday.

“Solihull are a good side and have recruited well. They have players such as Stephen Gleeson, Krystian Pearce and Adam Rooney, who have great experience, and we will be coming up against a former player in Jordan Cranston too.

“We have watched them and know they have some strengths, and we will have to be at our best.

“We are in decent form ourselves and have almost a full squad to choose from and are looking forward to the game, although we would love to have supporters there getting right behind us.’’

The winners on Saturday will receive £25,500 and the losers £8,500.
