Morecambe boss looks forward to Chelsea challenge this weekend

The Shrimps travel to Stamford Bridge for their first match at that stage in 18 years, having seen off Maldon and Tiptree and Solihull Moors in the opening two rounds.

They head to face a Chelsea side who have only won one of their last seven games.

For good measure, there is also the question as to whether Chelsea boss Frank Lampard will field a team of fringe players and youngsters instead of his regular starters.

“It doesn’t change anything,” Adams said of Chelsea’s possible changes.

“They are all first-team squad players and Chelsea are one of the top sides in the country.

“They are always looking to finish top or, if not, in the Champions League places so we know they are going to have some really talented players.

“We know the style of play Chelsea have. Any replacement will be similar to the player taken out.

“In the Champions League they played almost a different team to the one in the Premier League, when they won 4-0 at Sevilla.”

After a 10-day period of self-isolation as a result of positive Covid-19 tests, Morecambe returned to training on Tuesday evening and had their pre-match test yesterday.

As it stands, Adams has a fully fit-squad aiming to enjoy Sunday but also remembering there is a game to win.

“It’s one the players are looking forward to,” he said.

“We know we’ll have to defend very well, and when we get an opportunity, attack and take our chances.”
