Last season, after taking the managerial role with the Shrimps, Adams had said the standard in the bottom tier wasn’t as good as it had been when he was in charge at Plymouth Argyle.

However, coming towards the end of the second month of the season, and with the Shrimps having enjoyed a promising start to the campaign, the manager likes what he has seen so far.

He said: “It’s hard to tell but over the first six or seven games, the quality has been very good.

“The way the teams have tried to play, is that because there’s no supporters or no pressure on them?

“I don’t know but I think the quality has been good based on what I’ve seen.”

There is the possibility that, given the condensed fixture list, it may be the team that has the fewest injuries this season which has success, rather than the one with the best squad on paper.

Using Morecambe as an example, they got through the first month of the season relatively unscathed before losing four players to injury and two others to self-isolation in the space of a few days.

“It’s going to be very difficult for all clubs,” Adams said.

“We’re in a situation where we had a fully-fit squad but now we have people isolating and others injured.

“That just shows you what 48 hours can do but it’s something we have to deal with as a management team.”
