Morecambe boss Bentley’s frustration at Wycombe defeat

Jim Bentley was left frustrated again after his side went down to a 1-0 defeat to Wycombe on Tuesday night.

Aaron Pierre’s 74th minute header was the difference in a game where The Shrimps did more than enough to take at least a point.

Bentley said: “I thought we were excellent for the first half an hour.

“We played some good football, cut them open and had a good tempo about our play, just the final pass went astray or we didn’t get the shot off.

“That was the only thing missing. Every time they got a free-kick they loaded it in the box and late on Pierre, who was very good for them tonight, lost his marker and nodded it home.

“That’s what we’ve been undone by at the end of the day.

“They haven’t cut us open and haven’t really asked many questions of Barry Roche in goal.

“At the other end we’ve had a couple of set plays, they’ve had to clear one off the line, Lee Molyneux has tested the ‘keeper and on another night we could have won the game.

“But it’s fine dividing margins and we’ve been undone by a set play again.”

As with the narrow defeats to Hartlepool and Sheffield United, Bentley was again keen to take the positives however.

He said: “There’s plenty of positives, Shaun Miller coming in for his first game was very good.

“He just tired after the 70 minute mark which is to be expected.

“We’ve just got to make sure that if we’re not going to win the game we don’t lose it.

“And at the other end of the pitch, although we’re creating chances we’ve got to make sure we get the finishing touches and put the ball in the back of the net.”
