The Shrimps are 14th in League 2 on 49 points and well clear of the kind of relegation trouble they found themselves in last season.

But there has been plenty of frustration as poor home form has seen any hopes of a run at the play-offs vanish.

Bentley’s side have been good on the road however and travel on Saturday to an Exeter City side who have won three of their last four.

The Shrimps boss said: “At this stage of the season we want to finish as high as possible.

“I can understand everyone being frustrated, I am myself, because after the Luton game we were talking about a late run at the play-offs.

“Two home defeats in a week just took the wind out of our sails.

“We’re still closer to the play-offs than relegation and we’ve got targets individually and as a group.

“At this stage of the season we wanted more but we’re not in a bad position.

“We’re healthier than last season and have made improvements and there’s plenty to look forward to and be positive about with regards to the future.”

Exeter, who will have former Shrimps midfielder Tom McCready in their ranks, are making the late run at the play-offs many sides dream of and are four points from the top seven with eight games to play.

Bentley said: “Our away form is decent and we’ve got a decent enough record against Exeter over the last couple of years.

“They started the season well and tailed off a bit but they’re coming good now.

“It’ll be another difficult game but one that we want to win.

“We’re not just there to make up the numbers.”
