The Shrimps ended their poor home run with a fine 3-1 win over Portsmouth on Saturday that saw them pick up a first victory in six at the Globe Arena.

Bentley’s side, 12th in League 2 and seven points off the play-offs, are now five games unbeaten with four to play starting at York City, tonight, Tuesday.

The Morecambe boss said: “Hopefully we can get to 60 points as soon as possible and then enjoy the run in, give it our all and express ourselves.

“It’s strange that someone on Saturday asked me about the play-offs and only a couple of weeks ago we were talking about getting dragged into a relegation battle if we hadn’t sorted our home form out.

“A couple of wins back-to-back can really boost you.

“We’ve been in the top half for most of the season and want to make sure we stay there.”

Tuesday night’s opponents York have dragged themselves away from the relegation dogfight and are nine points clear of the Football League trap door.

Bentley is looking forward to pitting his wits against Russ Wilcox, a manager he respects.

He said: “It’s never an easy place to go.

“They’ve struggled this year but they’ve pulled away from the relegation battle they were in.

“They’ve strung results together, have got good players and a manager I’ve got a lot of time for.

“He’s a nice fella who’s done well in the past and he seems to be getting them going again.

“The momentum’s been built and they’re finishing the season well.

“They might not be great at home but you can’t underestimate anyone.

“It’s a tough game for us but we’re five unbeaten, we’re scoring goals, looking a threat, defensively we’re not too bad and it’s got the makings of a good game.”

Kevin Ellison could come back into the reckoning after being rested against Portsmouth.

Jack Redshaw, Mark Hughes and Alan Goodall will all have hamstring problems assessed ahead of the game.
