The Shrimps were 2-1 winners over Yeovil on Saturday with Shaun Miller sealing a fine comeback, scoring with aplomb after another Jamie Devitt assist.

The contracts of both players end in the summer with Bentley acknowledging that the vultures could be ready to pounce of his star men.

On Miller, who scored his 11th of the season, he said: “He’s a top player.

“We want to keep him at the club but in this day and age with Bosman free transfers and the like it’s difficult.

“I think he’s got 11 goals now. We’ve taken him off the scrapheap, he didn’t have a club in August but we’ve managed him right, got him up to full speed and it doesn’t surprise me when he goes in like that.

“He could have done better with an earlier one but it’s a fantastic ball from Jamie Devitt he’s let it run across his body, shifted his body weight, composed himself when the keeper’s steaming out and put it right in the top corner.”

Devitt, a former Hull youngster, is another rebuilding his career with some fine performances having become The Shrimps’ creative force.

Bentley said: “Jamie’s another one, the type of player we should be building a team round but again while they’re out of contract and doing well it’s very difficult.

“As long as he keeps doing what he’s doing that’s all I’m interested in. As long as he keeps contributing for the team.

“The last couple of games he played really well from the hole, just off the front man. We put him onto the right side today with Tom Barkhuizen and he’s done very well.”
