Morecambe 2-1 Rotherham

Kevin Ellison put down another marker in his quest to become a Morecambe legend with a dramatic last-minute winner against his former club.

The player who seems to write his own scripts these days popped up in the box to head home Lewis Alessandra’s right-wing cross to seal the three points to calm any lingering nerves the Shrimps may have had over League 2 survival.

While Ellison grabbed the headlines it was also a memorable day for left back Robbie Threlfall who scored his first Morecambe goal with a delightful free-kick to give the Shrimps the lead in the second half.

Threlfall was given the rare chance to show what he can do with a dead ball on 56 minutes and he took full advantage with a curler that beat Scott Shearer to his right.

Unfortunately the lead was short lived as Rotherham pulled a goal back in fortunate circumstances on 64 minutes when Lionel Ainsworth’s long-range shot struck the trailing leg of Alex Revell and wrong footed Barry Roche.

The turning point came on 71 minutes when Millers skipper Johnny Mullins was shown a straight red card and he upended Andy Wright who looked set for a free run on goal.

Despite being a man short the visitors looked threatening until Ellison came to the fore once again to clinch a dramatic win.
