The striker changed the game after coming off the bench on his return from injury and finished well in the 94th minute after good work from on-loan Blackpool man Tom Barkhuizen on his home debut.

Michael Coulson had given York a deserved 77th-minute lead with Russ Wilcox coming within seconds of a first win as their new manager before Redshaw, after a string of near misses, intervened.

York had the first half chance of the night, Jake Hyde poking Marvin McCoy’s right-wing cross wide on 10 minutes before the hosts, with the strong wind at their backs in the first period, saw Kevin Ellison fire a 25-yard free-kick from the right corner of the area into the side netting on the quarter hour.

But although the weather was an undoubted factor it was a sloppy start from both sides who squandered possession with frustrating regularity.

Flowing football was at a premium and it was unsurprising that it was Jamie Devitt who provided it for the Shrimps, his pass releasing Paul Mullin shortly before the half hour with the striker’s shot from a tight angle easily dealt with by Michael Ingham in the York goal.

York were having the better of things however, the Impressive Femi Ilesanmi firing a free-kick from distance wide on 32 minutes as they failed to turn passing promise into real threat in the final third.

One of their best efforts came from a Morecambe free-kick five minutes before the break, a swift counter culminating with Barry Roche beating away Marvin McCoy’s effort.

Hyde then came within a whisker of giving York what would have been a deserved lead on 42 minutes firing just wide from six yards after the ball had been kept alive from a corner in a crowded penalty area.

The half-time interval came at a good time for the hosts but for the second straight home game they lost Devitt early in the second half, this time to a hamstring injury.

It was Redshaw who replaced the Irishman and he had an almost instant impact, crashing a left-footed shot from 20 yards off Ingham’s right-hand post on 57 minutes.

Morecambe’s best chance came from the resultant corner, but unmarked Padraig Amond could only head over Andy Fleming’s centre from 12 yards.

The Shrimps may have improved but York remained a threat, captain Russell Penn firing over from the edge of the area when should have done better 20 minutes from time.

The visitors came close to going in front on 76 minutes but after spilling Keith Lowe’s shot though a crowded box, Roche helped the ball to safety at the second attempt.

York didn’t have to wait long for their goal however and were ahead a minute later.

A promising Morecambe break ended with Alex Kenyon squandering possession, the visitors countered at pace with Coulson beating his man on the edge of the area before finishing well beyond Roche and into the bottom right-hand corner.

Redshaw looked the most likely to inspire the Shrimps to a leveller, his fine cross five minutes from time agonisingly evading a couple of diving bodies.

Then on 87 minutes the diminutive front man pounced on a loose ball outside the area but could only drag his shot wide from 20 yards.

It was then a hat-trick of near misses for Redshaw who saw a curling shot from the edge of the area deflected inches wide with time almost up.

But just as it looked like the equaliser wasn’t going to come, Barkhuizen drove forward and fed Redshaw in the area who beat Ingham one-on-one with almost the last kick of the game.
